Here are the things currently occupying my time and attention, in no particular order:
During the day I work as an Employee Trainer in the transportation department of a local school district. This means I teach people strategies to manage and connect with their students in safe and rewarding ways while riding the school bus.
Being the best wife, sister, daughter, and friend I can be.
I’m the oldest sibling in a large and chaotic family that is growing and changing by the day, it seems. There’s a lot of responsibility I’ve taken on and a lot of people counting on me, not to mention a new generation to be a rock and an example to.
My wife and I have been together for over 18 years but only just got around to tying the knot over the summer of 2019. Not much has changed but, somehow, everything has changed. It’s a daily journey through the good and bad of life together.
After over 30 years on this Earth, I’ve finally found a tribe of friends that feel like a community. A diverse group of married couples that understand my values and where I’m at in life. Another kind of family in the making.
A few years ago I was diagnosed with severe ulcerative colitis and have spent much of my time riding the emotional and physical roller coaster of flare-ups, finding remission, and flaring again. Some days there isn’t much more I can do than take my medication and rest.
In the moments between the events and emotions of life I spend time reading, writing, and learning as much as I can about myself and about humanity as a whole.
I’m writing daily journal posts, reviews, and personal essays here, and slowly getting back to writing informative, persuasive, and expository pieces for my other blog Zen and Pi.
I’m exploring the possibility of self-publishing a book of essays, even if no one ever reads it.
I’m always looking for more writing opportunities such as guest blogging spots, calls for submissions or pitches, and contests. If you have such an opportunity or know of something I might be a good fit for, please, feel free to contact me.
I’m taking as many free “massive open online courses” as I can, especially relating to sociology and philosophy. Right now I’m enrolled in International Women’s Health and Human Rights and Modern & Contemporary American Poetry. You can see a list of my past courses on my “Completed MOOCs” page.
I’m spending a lot of time reading too, though, never as much as I should. I’m presently working through Poetics by Aristotle.
Some of my other interest and obsessions include:
- Note taking, daily logging, and research strategies
- Meditation and mindfulness
- Hiking
