Today I am grateful for:
- Cleaning. I generally hate household chores, most people do, but as I get older, I’m learning that I can do my best thinking and get in some necessary decompressing. It’s satisfying to do work with tangible and immediate results. It’s calming to declutter. It’s empowering to make choices and changes to your surrounding.
- Summer naps. There is nothing like the deep sleep you get when it’s just a little too hot out, when lawnmowers are whirring in the distance, when afternoon thunderstorms are rumbling on the horizon, and when your wife and all your pets squeeze in with you to lose a few hours of the day.
- Homemade Italian dinner and dessert. My wife’s mom had a dinner party cancelled, and she had a ton of food she’d spent the night cooking and no one to eat it all. So, she called us over for a little social distancing style takeout of eggplant parmesan, pasta with sauce made from scratch, caprese bread, and tiramisu for dessert. All of it was delicious!
